On the route LZ-30 you find different famous Lanzarote wineries. Wine making history goes back to the 1700’s.
One of the oldest is “Bodega El Grifo” more than worth a visit.
The malvasia grape is providing completely different wines to anywhere else in the world.
You can visit the bodegas for tours and tastings yourself.

Most villages in Lanzarote have one, and they offer fabulous home cooked food at prices you won’t believe.

The Cactus Garden in Guatiza… a masterpiece in Lanzarote

Manrique’s garden is a masterpiece with over 7,000 plants to look at. August, September and October are the best months to catch them in flower.
There’s also a café there where you can buy a burger made from Tunera cactus!

 

Spend A Day In Arrecife the capital of Lanzarote

Get there early and enjoy wandering the narrow streets where you find a lot of small bars… taste a coffee and a sandwich or croissant.
In the calle Leon y Castillo plenty of interesting shops also the international brands.
Have a break on the 17th floor of The Arrecife Gran Hotel, spectacular view over the city and ocean.
Finally, enjoy lunch around Charco San Ginés and then relax on the fabulous Sandy Playa El Reducto and cool off with a dip.

 

Have a nice walk across the ocean and get back with the water taxi

Between Puerto del Carmen and Puerto Calero, Lineas Romero, is offering a waterbus.
Park your rental car at one end, and walk to the other across the ocean, have a coffee and cake and then jump on the boat to get back to your car.

The natural art of Lanzarote thanks to César Manrique

The island of Lanzarote can appear to be one giant work of art.
César Manrique left an inescapable impression on this wild land.

He was born in Arrecife in 1919 and was the island’s number one fan. In return,
the inhabitants adore him to this day. After a spell of study in the US, he returned to
Lanzarote in the 1960s and having witnessed tourist resorts in other parts of Spain
instantly began to worry about Lazaroteño architecture following a similar pattern.

Working with the local government, he made a lasting impact on the man-made aesthetics
of the island.
The trademark uniform whitewashed houses with green or blue woodwork is Manrique’s influence again.

César Manrique was an esteemed artist as well as an architect, working with local authorities on
construction regulation was just one element of his grand plan for Lanzarote.
He was famed for once proclaiming: “for me, it was the most beautiful place on earth and I realised
that if people could see it through my eyes, they will think the same”.

He created an outstanding collection of sculptures and architectural projects that not only
avoided marring the landscape but utilised it, merged with it and became part
of the island’s charm and top attractions.
